Where can I get Hoodlo?
For access to Hoodlo on Android, get in touch with the Hoodlo team. Once you’re in, choose the places and local interests that matter to you, then make Hoodlo your own.
What will stay free?
Hoodlo has free membership and optional Premium features. Alerts from available official organisations will stay free, so you can keep up with important local updates without a subscription. Premium adds extra features, including a wider Hood radius and an extra saved place.
Can I choose which alerts I receive?
Yes. Choose the local interests you want to hear about, then turn notifications on or off in Settings. Nearby high-risk safety alerts are an exception. You can also choose whether urgent safety alerts can reach you during quiet hours. Nearby alerts depend on your location, notification permissions and the information available in your area.
Will I still get nearby high-risk safety alerts if a category is off?
Yes. High-risk, potentially life-threatening alerts within 1 km can still notify you when their category is off. This includes reports such as sharks, crocodiles, snakes, strong rips, boat accidents, fires, floodwater and fallen powerlines, along with official high-risk warnings.
Reports must be active and from the past two hours. Open Hoodlo to refresh your location; the exception uses a phone location updated within 15 minutes.
Your main Hood and phone notifications must be on. Quiet-hours choices, phone permissions and Do Not Disturb still apply.
How does Hoodlo keep local reports useful?
Alerts have expiry times to help keep the map fresh as conditions change. Member trust scores build on reporting history and community feedback, giving you more context about the person behind a report. Together with the report’s time and source, that helps you judge the information you see.
Does Hoodlo replace emergency services?
No. In an emergency in Australia, call 000. A Hoodlo post does not contact police or emergency services. Follow official advice and road closures.
How did Hoodlo start?
Hoodlo was started by a Queensland family who saw a need for fresh, local alerts that matter to you and your family. The idea was simple: bring useful updates from neighbours and official organisations into one place, so it’s easier to stay connected to what’s happening around you.
A better-informed Hood
